"I have come to set the world on fire, and how I wish it was already burning!" - Luke 12:49
We want to set the world on fire ... this is a good thing; However, we cannot share the flame without possessing it first (burning bright and hot within us). If our evangelical efforts are to bare valuable fruit, it must come from the Holy Spirit.
"He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." - Ephesians 3:20
I often put forth a lot of work and effort with the hopes of bringing others towards Jesus. While this is a worthy goal, it can not be effective without God's grace and Spirit. I continually find that my ministerial and evangelical efforts only make an impact when they come from the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This interior life (where the Spirit resides), is where an effective apostolate must come from. Our efforts on our own are tiny compared to what can be done with God ("With God, all things are possible." - Mark 10:27)!
"If their endeavor is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them." - Acts 5:39
Prayer is the means to nurturing and nourishing this deep interior life. Prayer is a channel for God's grace and the Holy Spirit. St. Therese of Lisieux says that "prayer is nothing more than an intimate conversation with the one who created us and loves us." Prayer is the foundation of the interior life and the place where a saintly active life flows.
If we truly love God and have faith in His providence, we will make the time to speak to Him and a priority to LISTEN to Him through daily prayer! Pray! Pray often - Pray everyday! Set the world on FIRE!
